WhatsApp is working on some new features for Android and iOS users
WhatsApp, the most popular instant messaging service, has been working incessantly this year to add a range of new features for users of its platform. Besides rolling out features such as WhatsApp stories, Delete for everyone, Group calling shortcut and more, the company is also working on some interesting features that were found in the early stages of development.
Let’s have a look at some of the top interesting features coming soon for WhatsApp users on iOS and Android platforms.
Dark mode
With Android 10 and iOS 13 enabling system-wide dark mode, WhatsApp too is working on a full-fledged dark mode that will allow users to change the white color theme.
Spotted in several beta versions, the most-anticipated feature will be available through a new section under WhatsApp’s Settings > Theme Settings. Users will be able to select between three options available within the Theme Settings menu, which is Light Theme, Dark Theme, and System Default.
With every major mobile app like Gmail, Google Chrome, Facebook Messenger having a dark mode, we can expect the new feature to make an appearance on WhatsApp’s stable version soon.
Self-destructing messages (or disappearing messages)
Just like Snapchat and Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp is going to offer self-destructing or disappearing messages feature that will allow users to send a message or media with a timer. This means all messages or media sent by participants will be automatically deleted from the chat after a pre-determined time period, i.e. after 5 seconds, or 1 hour, or 1 day, or 7 days, and even 30 days.
“The feature is in an alpha stage of development: it means that WhatsApp is just starting to work on it, and no ETA is available to know when the feature will be available for everyone”, WABetaInfo said in a post.
With WhatsApp already having a ‘Delete for Everyone’ feature, the self-destructing message feature is aimed at adding additional layer of security and privacy to users’ accounts.
Hide muted Status
Currently, WhatsApp allows users to hide a Status that they don’t want to see on their status bar. However, the status still appears in the users’ feed at the bottom. As a result, WhatsApp is adding a new “Hide muted status” feature that will allow users to completely hide the status from the feed.
WhatsApp multi-platform
WhatsApp is working on a multi-platform feature that will allow users to access the app on more than one device simultaneously and independently. In other words, users will be able to use the service on multiple devices with the same account. While WhatsApp Web allows the user to use the app on the desktop, it is restricted as it only mirrors the existing app on the device. The instant messaging company is said to be working not only on standalone apps for PC and tablets but also on a dedicated app for iPad.
